Tired Of Doing Teeth Restoration The Old Way (Read This)


Restoration means replacing or bringing back into position what is missing in a position or a place. It can also mean the process of restoring something. Teeth restoration is restoring the teeth and its surrounding structures that have been lost using metallic or acrylic material for the restoration.


There are various advantage and merit of teeth restoration which are:

  1. Function: Helps to keep the check-in shape so as to avoid flattening.
  2. Mastication: It allows the patient to chew or grind food while eating.
  3. Aesthetic: Facial appearance is one of the major reason teeth restorations are carried out and is also for beautification.

The restoration can be fixed or removable and can also be a full or partial replacement. The restoration is referred to as “DENTURE PROSTHESIS”. Denture prosthesis: Is an appliance used for the replacement of teeth or tooth and its associated tissues in a patient mouth.

There are different classes of denture prosthesis which are:

PARTIAL DENTURES: They are prosthesis or appliances that are used to restore a missing tooth or teeth of the dental dentition that carries the teeth and the surrounding tissues. They can be Removable partial denture and fixed partial denture. They are partial because they replace one or more teeth in the mouth.

COMPLETE DENTURE: They are denture prosthesis that is used to restore the whole patient dentition and the associate’s structures. They are majorly used for edentulous cases seen in elderly patients most time. They can also be a fixed or removable appliance.

Teeth restoration can also be carried out immediately after extraction as taking place in the clinic. Prosthesis use for such cases is referred to as “IMMEDIATE DENTURES”. IMMEDIATE DENTURE:  They are appliances fabricate prior to extraction In the clinic so as to mimic the natural one that is extracted.

Restoration done immediately is of different types which are:

  1. Socketed/flangeless immediate denture.
  2. Flange with alveolectomy
  3. Flange without alveolectomy
  4. Flange with alveolectomy

Teeth restoration can be carried out or done in two ways, this can be:

  1. Direct teeth restoration: in which the restoration is done directly on the patient mouth. In this case, minor restoration is done when the cavity is present in the patient mouth. Is also refers to as tooth Filling restoration using Amalgam, composite filling.
  2. Indirect teeth restoration: in which the restoration is carried out in the laboratory by a dental technology following a series of the procedure. Here different materials are used such as Acrylic resin, ceramic, metal or combination of any of the materials.
